Our very first trip was a charter, and chartered trips continue to be the mainstay of our business. Interested in something other than our standard trip offering? Friends and Family Trips
Imagine traveling down the mighty Colorado River between the steep red walls of the Grand Canyon, anticipating the upcoming rapids. Now imagine you are surrounded by your closest friends and family. At Hatch, we know the only thing more life changing than getting to experience the Grand Canyon from the river is sharing it with the people you love—after all, we’ve been sharing river experiences with our family since 1929.

The Grand Canyon is not only unquestionably beautiful, it is also one of the most scientifically compelling places in the world. Want to learn about geology? Hydrology? Riparian ecosystems? We’ve got it! Plus, there is no shortage of inspiration and source material for writers, photographers, and all sorts of artists. We can even tailor your stops to best meet your specialty group’s needs.

A trip down the Colorado River is the perfect way to bring your team closer together. Spending your days and nights away from the office (and cell phone reception) in one of the most unique places in the world is a sure way to learn how best to work together. Frequently Asked Questions about Private Charters
For a two boat motorized trip, you need 29 people. This option has the most available launches on our calendar, giving you the most flexibility when choosing a date.
For a one boat motorized trip, you need 16 people. These trips are offered on a limited basis, typically in August.
For an oar powered trip, you need 16, 20, or 24 people. Trips of this style are offered on a very limited basis, and may be difficult to reserve as private charters. You may need to be flexible in your year of travel to secure one.
We are not able to offer private trips for groups smaller than those listed.

We offer one free space for any group of 16 or more, private group or not.
For large groups, planning more than a year in advance is generally a good idea. The closer it gets to the time you want to travel, the fewer date options will be available.
If you would like to travel during a year we are currently booking, give our office a call. We can discuss your trip needs and then provide you with relevant dates that are still available to be booked as private trips.

Contact us at any time and we'll add you to our private charter list. Provide as many details as you can including: what type of trip you'd like, how many days long you want your trip to be, about how many people you anticipate booking, and any other pertinent info.
When we are preparing to open a new calendar, our charter specialist will reach out to get your booking set up before we open to the general public. Typically this is about 16 months in advance, usually after Thanksgiving. (e.g. We reach out in November 2024 to set up charters for 2026.)

Sometimes. For the most part, our private trips are the same as any other trip—but with only people you’ve invited. If you have any special requests, bring them up with our charter specialist and we’ll see if we can accommodate them.
Included
Everything we include for a normal river trip is also included for a charter trip, so check the page for the trip style you are interested in chartering. For most trips, this will mean double occupancy lodging the night before your launch, all camping equipment, food, basic beverages, and exit transportation to either Marble Canyon or Las Vegas.
Not Included
We don’t include transportation to Marble Canyon, extra lodging before or after the trip (depending upon your specific arrangements), extra beverages like sodas or alcohol, or personal gear (like clothing, shoes, toiletries, cameras). Some large groups find it is cost efficient to book their own charter bus to Marble Canyon. Hatch is not involved in this process.

We have two options:
- We create a single reservation in our system. Everyone is on one invoice, and the group organizer is responsible for collecting the money and then sending it to Hatch.
- We create a “group reservation” in our system. Everyone is linked, but each individual or family has their own reservation with their own invoice. Everyone is responsible for paying their own balance directly to Hatch.
Yes. We will work with you on a schedule for getting everyone signed up and deposits paid. In most cases, we can provide about three months.
It is the group organizer's responsibility to fill all the agreed on spaces and ensure payment is made as agreed.
We strongly recommend that each group organizer keep a “waitlist” of backup guests in case anyone in their group needs to cancel—not uncommon for large groups planning so far in advance. Hatch has no means of maintaining waitlists for private trips.

Hatch reserves the right to open an unfilled private trip up to general booking after the agreed upon deadline has passed. This gives us the opportunity to fill the trip as originally intended. We will work closely with the group organizer before resorting to opening a trip. We just ask that the organizer communicates openly and often and makes a good faith effort to fill the trip.
