Grand Canyon Gems: Redwall Cavern

Grand Canyon Gems: Redwall Cavern

One of the earliest places people love to stop and explore on a Grand Canyon river trip is a place called Redwall Cavern! Maybe you’ve heard of it or seen pictures of it but didn’t know its name. What makes this a great place for Grand Canyon visitors to explore? There’s something everyone can enjoy about this extraordinary place.

Redwall cavern, like the name states, is a giant cave that is carved into the redwall limestone right at river level. It’s about the size of a football field! Yeah, it’s really big! And inside it is a huge beautiful sand beach! Which makes it a perfect place for groups to play games. Frisbee, Kubb, hacky sack, and Bocce ball are all crowd favorites at this stop.

If you are more into just relaxing, then lounging on the beach here is a must! The cavern provides an entirely shaded beach and portion of the river. Which makes it the perfect place to escape the desert sun and heat and relax or take a nap.

This cave lets you get up close and personal with the redwall limestone. On top of that there are fossils to be found at one end of the cave near the river. Ancient nautiloids can be found preserved within the boulders piled at one end of the beach.

Whatever you choose to do at this stop will be well worth your time.
